The Orlando City Lions announced this morning details for the new downtown stadium. The stadium will be in a prime location, just 2 blocks from the Amway Center, as well as Church Street bars & restaurants. This privately funded project is set to open in September 2016 with over 25,000 seats.
The stadium is being built with canopies covering every seat. This serves two purposes: as a cover for the crowd during rain or extreme sun, as well as a way to echo the cheers of the fans. The new stadium will give the Lions an extreme home field advantage, considering the way it will be constructed. Until the new stadium opens, Orlando City will continue to play at the Citrus Bowl.
